A loss demand records the amount you present to the carrier on a claim, along with the values behind it. Create one each time you send a demand, so the figure and its history stay on the claim instead of in your email.
Demands and offers are two different records in the same section. A demand is what you present to the carrier. An offer is what the carrier presents back to you and your client. Add Demand creates the first kind. Enter each one as its own record so the back and forth stays readable.
Before you start
Any user who can open the claim can create a loss demand. There is no separate security level for Demands and Offers. If you cannot see the claim, you cannot see its demands.
Have your settlement values ready before you start, including the replacement value, any depreciation, and any deductible applied.
Steps
- Open the claim and select Demands and Offers from the claim menu.
- Click Add Demand.
- Select the Settlement Description. The dropdown holds common descriptions, and you can add your own.
- Select the property type, such as Dwelling, but know there is a Custom option if you need.
- Enter the Date Offered and the Payment Expected date.
- Under Settlement Values, enter the amounts that apply: Replacement Value, Recoverable/Holdback, Non-Recoverable Depreciation, Deductible Applied, Amount Over Policy Limit, and Prior Payment. Leave anything that does not apply blank.
- Add anything the record needs in the notes field.
- Click Save.
What happens next
The demand appears in Demands and Offers as pending. Pending demands do not reach the claim ledger. The values carry through to the ledger only after you mark the demand accepted.
Demand records do not keep their own change history. If you edit a demand before it is accepted, add a line to the notes field with the date, your initials, and what changed. That notes field is the only record of the edit.
Marking a demand accepted
Do this when the carrier has actually accepted the demand. The status drives what reaches the claim ledger.
- Open the saved demand in Demands and Offers.
- Click Accepted.
- Click Save.
[NEEDS VERIFICATION: does the Accepted button commit the status on its own, making this step wrong]
The demand stays in Demands and Offers and its values carry through to the claim ledger.
If it does not work
You cannot find the claim. Demands live on the claim, so a claim you cannot open shows you nothing. Someone at your firm who manages users can give you access to it.
The demand is not showing on the claim ledger. Check its status. A pending demand does not reach the ledger. Only an accepted demand does.
You saved a wrong value. Open the demand, correct the field, and save. Then add a note with the date, your initials, and what you changed, because nothing else records the edit.
